What is U3A About?

There are a number of recognised stages of our lives:
     •   The First Age is when we are children and dependent on our parents.
     •   The Second Age is when we become independent and most of us marry and rear our own children.
     •   The Third Age is when we are retired but are still active and independent. It is often called “the age of active retirement”.

U3A is a world–wide, not–for–profit organisation and is a learning co–operative of older people, which encourages healthy ageing by enabling members to share many educational, creative, leisure and social activities. Its main purpose is to promote lifelong learning.

Although the term "University" is included in our title, we are not a group of retired academics, just a group of normal people who want to keep our minds active and who want to continue to learn in a "learning for pleasure" environment.

U3A Lakes Entrance

U3A Lakes Entrance Inc. operates mainly from "The Masonic Lodge", Rowe St, Lakes Entrance. Members are encouraged to give courses on subjects they feel competent to lead. Others act as facilitators to lead study circles. The more discussion there is in classes, the more lively and worthwhile the course becomes, and the more individual members get from them.

Classes are held on most week–days in the school terms, generally from 10.00 am to 12 noon and from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm.

Membership Fees

The membership fee (annual subscription) in 2018 is $50.00 per person.

The only other charges might be for purchase of materials for a few courses, or coffee/tea within activities.
